The terminology of ‘encounter’ seeks to characterise not only the open and collective nature of these events, but also the passage of the individual apprentice, both physical and psychological, out of the world of isolated being in which he lives from day to day, and into the collective experience of a sacred world – which would appear, as it were, over the horizon of our desires, in the very act of their enactment.
